TL;DR
The house-building robot of world's-fair dreams is now a product with a price tag. ICON raised $200 million on Oct. 13 to scale Titan, a robotic printer that builds walls up to 27 feet high and sells for about $900,000. In France, three operators on one printer produced a three-story, 12-apartment social-housing block in 34 days, a little under five weeks. In Switzerland, a printed tower stands four stories and about 100 feet tall. Printed buildings have moved from one-story demonstrations to multi-story apartments, and the machines that make them can be bought. What it could mean: faster, cheaper walls for housing, and in time the same technique on the Moon. What it does not yet mean is cheap houses, because walls are only part of the cost and plumbing, roofing and finishing are still done the old way.
