TL;DR
Glasses that draw pictures in full color over the real world, at about the weight of a pair of sunglasses, may be close. On Oct. 27 China's Rokid launched Rokid Color, glasses it says weigh 55 grams and show full color through a see-through lens, priced at 4,999 yuan. Most display glasses today show text in a single color, often green. If Rokid's claims hold, that is the step from a heads-up readout to images that look like part of the world, such as maps, labels, captions and pictures in real color, in frames light enough to wear for hours. The caveat is large: every figure comes from the company through secondary reports, no pair has shipped, nobody outside Rokid has tested one, and it has not said how much of a person's view the image covers or how bright it gets outdoors.
